The big question today: how close do we want the house to the pond without it feeling like we’re living on top of it? We talked views, water levels, driveway elevations, drainage… all of it.
I love these early site visits. No fancy equipment yet, just boots on the ground, measuring, and talking through what actually matters to the guy who’s gonna live here every day.
Pond views are killer… but so is staying high and dry when the spring rains hit.
Would you put the house right up on the water for the view, or pull it back a bit for that peaceful separation?

My name is Kyle, and together, with my wife Vanessa, we are the new owners of the McHugh's Double Drive Thru in Mattoon and Charleston. Vanessa grew up here, and is a MHS grad, Charleston peeps, don't hate her for it.
We have 3 kids - Asa (12), Fiona (10), and Camilla (7). They're one of our reasons for buying McHugh's as it's always been their FAVORITE! Funny story, our daughter Camilla doesn't totally know that we own the place yet. She just thinks that mom & dad are working the line so that she can have "free" burgers. 😂

I grew up in Mattoon. We moved back about ten years ago. Somehow I did not introduce the kids to McHugh's when we first returned. The kids grandfather took them there after school one day. They said to me "why were you holding out on on us? Poppy took us to McHugh's today and it was amazing!"
